Kilimanjaro Machame 6

6 DAYS

FROM 2,200 USD

OVERVIEW

The Machame Route is one of the most scenic and rewarding ways to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Over six days, you traverse through diverse ecosystems — from lush rainforest to moorland, alpine desert, and finally the summit. This route is challenging, but offers good acclimatization, excellent views, and a real sense of achievement.

Transfer from Moshi/Arusha to Machame Gate and begin your trek through rainforest terrain. Arrive at Machame Camp (around 3,020 m) in 5–7 hours.

Climb out of the forest onto the Shira Plateau, trekking through moorland for 4–6 hours to reach Shira Camp (approx. 3,840 m).

Ascend to the Lava Tower for acclimatization, then descend to Barranco Camp. This day takes around 6–8 hours across semi-desert terrain.

Climb the iconic Barranco Wall, then continue to Karanga Valley and up to Barafu Camp at the base of the summit (approx. 4,640 m). This is a long day (~8–10 hours).

Start around midnight for the summit push. Climb to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m) via Stella Point, enjoy the sunrise, then descend via Mweka Route to Mweka Camp.

Descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Receive your summit certificate, then transfer back to Moshi or Arusha.
